Royal Brunei Yacht Club

Royal Brunei Yacht Club
This is a delightful yacht club at Serasa, near Maura, in Brunei. They welcomed us and allowed us to use their facilities, including the pool and washing machine, and we enjoyed great meals and the comraderie in their club house.

Night Rain

We're getting lots of rain here in Brunei, nearly every night squalls roll though and bring a cooling downpour which also fills our water tanks.

Water Village Tour

Heading Out
We hired a water taxi to take us through the water village across the river from Bandar Seri Begawan. This water village (houses on stilts) has been the prominent feature of Bandar for centuries.

The boy waved as us as we sped past. There are no railings on the walkways between houses. We wonder how often someone falls in?

Fat, Dumb and Happy

Sailing along, thinking we're doing fine, having some leftover singapore noodles, and a glass of Chardonnay, life is good. In a few moments we discovered that we are being hit with a big tide flow against us.

Hydraulic Panel

This little guy had a bad day: With a real "Bang!" one of the fittings in back broke and it started to bleed to death. It's not leaking now, but look at the pressure on the left guage. it should be a lot higher, but that's all she'll take, Capt'n.

Chart

You can see the course we plotted through the reefs sailing to Labuan. What you don't see is the next tack. It looked like a switchback on a mountian trail. Ugh!

Day One

The first day of our two day sail to Labuan was terrific. Fast, easy sailing, in the shade of our underway awning. We never changed tacks.

Tacking Action

We're tacking in a fresh breeze on the way to Labuan. Judy steers and I do the sheets and runners. We trade off, except Judy doesn't like to tack the big genoa.

We extracted this frame from a video we shot with judy's camera. If I knew how to put it up on the web, I'd give you a link to it.

Sutera Harbor At Dusk

Sutera Harbor at Dusk

We're sitting down here aboard Wings in our snug berth at Sutera Harbor in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. This is by far the nicest marina we've ever stayed in, with definately 5-star facilities, and at a good price.

Judy hangs out at the Olympic size pool and swims laps for exercise, I love to spend my time in the chart room using the WiFi connection.

We can take a taxi to town for a couple of bucks and there are great restuarants also at good prices. What more could you ask?

Oh, the sailing around here is great too.

Haganes

Haganes

At Gayana Island Resort we ran across this interesting boat run by a couple we knew from Mexico and other places in the Pacific when they had a Macgreggor 65 named Final Frontier, Steven and Aleta Hansen.

Steve and Aleta went to Norway and bought this 100 year old 100 foot, 118 gross ton steel cargo boat and converted it to a luxury cruising vessel. What a cool boat!

You can read more about Haganes at their web site here

This family came into town on a local cargo boat, and the two women stepped ashore, then Dad handed over the little boy, finally the little girl. Then they all went shopping(less Dad).
